Methods of Calculating Cutting Length of a Circular Slab

Cutting length for every structure design differs so right formula and method has to put where the steel need to be together, in the video the detail is given.

Circular Slab is used in making various things like roof of a room or hall circular in plans, floor of circular water tanks of towers, roof of pump houses made above tubewells and roof of a traffic control post at the crossing of roads.

They are generally used in making the design of circular water tank reservoirs with flat bottom and raft foundations.
In this slab, blending is done vaguely two perpendicular directions with the two spans and reinforcement is given as per of a mesh of bars with same area of cross-section in both the directions. The analysis of the stresses in these slabs is depended on elasticthoery and these slabs deflect in the form of a saucer and increase radial and peripheral stresses.

This article will focus on measuring steel cut length for circular slab in detail that will be helpful for the civil engineering students. There is also a link of a construction video that will help to calculate the steel cut length for circular tab while Standard steel can be procured in 12m or 40 ft length. Unlike other RCC members, this one is different as the rod length will vary as per the diameter of the circle; calculating the length of the needed steel is made using Pythagoras theorem that is little different from normal one.

Cutting length for every structure design differs so one needs to cut in view of this, the sizes and number of steel need to be together with grade is stated in structure design. One cannot choose any length directly and the steel is full with dimension also extended with the support of swishing length in column and development length in beams to column. Tensile stresses is generated on the convex surface and compresses stresses are on the concave surface; where the tensile stresses have to be arranged in the redial circumferential directions close to the convex surface.

Alternatively the reinforcing bars can be arranged in two jointly perpendicular directions and close to the center of slab, the reinforcement is arranged in right angle mesh and close to the edge of the slab as radial and circumferential bars.

In this video, the diameter is taken as 10 ft and radius ® will be 5 ft, this center to center distance among the two bars is 9” or 0.75 feet. To calculate the cut lengths of different types of bars, the formula is: 2* Square Root (Radius 2 p- Center to Center Distance).
