Learn more about Selection of Steel For RCC Type and Quality

Steel is the one of vital construction material when used in combination with Concretes provides Strength to the building, beat Big or small. Hence the quality of steel used in construction is of  utmost important to impart strength and durability.

This Video gives the information of selecting the right quality steel. Thermostatically  Trusted base known as TMT bars of 415 and 500 grade are being used widely for construction purposes. The Steel Bars should be free from loose mills scales, scaly rust, oil or any other coatings.

The Bars are available in different diameters having a standard length of 12 Meters. The Weight of the Bars varies with diameters. The Weight per meter length as per Indian Standard are shown on the Screen which help you to check the correct weight while purchasing the Steel Bars.

Nominal dia (mm)             BIS Standard (Kg/m)

8.0                                                                  0.37 to 0.42

10.0                                                                00.57 to 0.66

12.00                                                              0.84 to 0.93

16.0                                                                 1.5 to 1.66

20.0                                                                2.39 to 2.54

25.0                                                                3.74 to 3.97

The Pitch and shape of the Ribs of the Bars develops strong bond with concrete. The Rod Should not develop any cracks on the top of the Bent portion, when bent to a portion of 180 Degree and rebent to 180 Degree.

It is always recommended to purchase reputed Brand of Steel bars. The Bars shall checked for ISI Logo, grade and name of the Manufacturer.

Summary for Selection of Steel for RCC – Type and Quality.

Steel compliments the concrete strength and hence use good quality steel

Check for correctness of diameter, ISI Mark, Grade of Steel, Length and Weight of the rod before purchasing

Rod with little rusting is not harmful

Never stack the steel rods in direct contact with ground.
