International Architecture Award 2014 AIA Winners Announced

24 projects submitted by the AIA’s international members with five receiving awards, and six receiving commendations. As per AIA, the institute’s international membership in more than 20 countries serves to help its more than 550 members maintain their connection to the profession in Australia despite living and working elsewhere. Winning projects mostly located in Asia.

Small Project Architecture award went to Shelter@Rainforest by Marra + Yeh Architects. The architects created a zero-energy house for the manager and guests of a forestry company in the jungle in Borneo. Jury Chair Peter Wilson noted that “the Small Project Award for a highly sustainable Rainforest Shelter must be singled out as exemplary with offices in Sydney and Malaysia. It is a product of a responsible, sensitive signpost and yardstick but not off big bucks overseas work.

According to the jury, WOHA’s ParkRoyal. in Commercial Architecture, Pickering in Singapore bagged the top prize, “achieving a fine balance of the natural and the cultural. With a Singapore’s “green city” theme, the luxury hotel project overflows with layers of tropical plants and palm trees, merging with the nearby park and forging ahead.
